  • 4-Layer‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Flexible Printed Circuit (FPC) Board is a high-density interconnect solution that can be used in applications where complex routing, signal integrity as well as mechanical flexibility in a small form factor are required. With a total thickness of 0.38 mm, 2 mil core polyimide as a base material, this board supports four conductive layers while still maintaining excellent capability of dynamic flex. A selective 2 mm polyimide (PI) stiffener is used to provide rigid, flat areas for connector attachment, component mounting, or mechanical fixation. The circuit is covered by a 50 µm coverlay which provides excellent insulation and mechanical protection. Surface finish is ENIG (2 μin gold) which ensures excellent solderability, corrosion resistance, and a flat coplanar surface for fine-pitch components.   • 2 mil (0.05 mm) PI cores are highly resistant to heat (up to ~260°C reflow), absorb very little moisture, and have very high dielectric strength - these characteristics are absolutely necessary for multilayer flex reliability.

  • Dynamic Flex Capability

  • Only 0.38 mm total thickness for four layers, is enough for controlled dynamic bending in the non-stiffened areas, which makes these types of assemblies suitable for folding, sliding, or rotating.

  • Signal Integrity & EMI Reduction

  • Having a multilayer build makes it possible to have separate power/ground planes, which helps in not only reducing crosstalk but also raising the EMI performance level compared to single or double-sided FPCs.

  • Flexible Stiffener Shape

  • The 2 mm PI stiffener may be made in almost any shape (square, round, cut-out), to fit the connector footprint or the mounting point, making it a good mix of both rigidity and ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌flexibility.
